Wow, that's a really wise and tasteful use of tone mapping!
And first of all really pretty photo, and quite full of little optic nuances! That's really awesome that the indistinct pillar above the sun matches the "pillar" on the water below the sun. All in all these are both created the same way (reflections on wavy layers) :)
The crop and central frame is pushing this photo even further over the limits.

I am amazed how clever and well executed this photo is and I am so glad that you shared it with our group :)

Thank you for a great comment! I am thankful that you have taken time to go into the depth of the image. Much appreciated.

When you speak of tone mapping I think of HDR, I don't know if that is what you mean. I am fairly new to photographing (got the camera in oct. 2010). The only post work is some work with the raw file in photoshop. To of course enhance the features of the halo, and the very nice reflection on the water.

I was pleased with the result. Glad you liked it:)

Poor linking... It takes you to the wrong place. If you are interested you have to paste the (optical_phenomenon) as well.

And people think a 10,000$ bluewhite diamond is pretty, and yet even the UGLIEST sunrise I've seen not only outshines them, it practically POWEROMBS it through a table!
